We asked our expert Make Up Artist, Trish Sousa to give her advice on achieving a sophisticated look for work that doesn’t take half the morning. Trish has shared her tips and tricks as a professional in the biz to give you the confidence in achieving the look you want effortlessly!

Here are the first Five Steps to WorkWear Make Up – next week we’ll share steps Six to Ten.

  1. Skincare – The right skincare routine is EVERYTHING, to ensure you maintain a youthful, nourished face. I like to call this the perfecting stage. You need to layer your skincare from lightest (serums) to thickest (creams or face oils). When I work on clients I like to spray the face with a hydrating rosewater facial mist, lightly massage an antioxidant serum, eye cream & lock it all in with a face cream (with SPF for day). Let your skincare soak in for a few minutes before beginning your makeup process.
  1. Primer – An amazing product to even out texture of the skin (enlarged pores, lines) , correct any skin discolourations & add longevity to your makeup so you maintain a fresh, flawless look all day long. There’s so many to choose from depending on your needs, however Shiseido Refining Make Up Primer is amazing for oilyskin types & Laura Mercier Foundation Primer is an industry favourite! Smooth primer over the face, concentrating on the T-zone and any problem areas before applying foundation.
  1. Foundation – Using your fingers or dampened sponge (the BeautyBlender is a pro favourite) start in the center of the face where most coverage is normally needed & blend well outwards. Tap/dab the foundation to build up coverage on areas that need it. Lightly blend the foundation down your neck a bit to tie it all together & don’t forget your ears if your hair is pulled up, in order to avoid any demarcation lines. Your foundation should blend seamlessly into the rest of your body.
  1. Concealer – Apply this after foundation to areas that need extra coverage such as under the eyes, around the nose & on blemishes. Using your finger or brush, dab (don’t rub) the product into the skin so you don’t disturb what you’ve done underneath & blend the edges well. Your foundation will cover the majority of discolourations so only use a small amount of concealer & slowly build up the coverage. I love the Dior Skin Radiance Booster Pen for the under eye area as it illuminates & covers imperfections quickly & flawlessly. It’s perfect to throw into your handbag for touch ups throughout the day.
  1. Lash Curler – A quick way to instantly open up the eyes & lengthen those lashes. If you’re time poor, you can even skip the eye shadow & go straight for your mascara. If you choose to curl your lashes, do so before mascara to avoid damaging them.
